Can I safely turn my standard 75 gallon glass tank into a rimless tank? I would like to take both the rims off, but if I have to leave the bottom rim on, I can. I do plan to euro-brace the tank if I can make it rimless.

    Thanks! :)

I knew someone who merely cut the cross-brace and the tank failed.

I would think that you could only eurobrace it if you had a ring of glass (i.e. not glass pieces that are siliconed together)

I don't get what you want to do. You want a rimless tank, but you want a eurobrace which makes the tank no longer rimless. What tank manufacturer made your tank? In some tanks the top brace is for extra support to help prevent bowing and add strength to the structure. In others, it is used to hide ugly, unpolished, poorly cut, glass.

EDIT; it is very easy to remove the braces using a dremel and allowing the cutting wheel to melt the plastic.

I think by rimless he means that he wants no trim, and is fine with eurobracing it and just having no plastic trim. I believe he is asking if he can eurobrace his 75, not run it rimless.

use 3/8" glass to eurobrace and it should be fine. You may want to polish the edges of the tank first so it looks cleaner. You will be doing this on an empty tank right?

xmetalfan99- Yes, by rimless I mean no plastic trim. Sorry about that.

The tank is currently empty and the trim is off. I really like the way it looks with no trim, so I think euro-bracing it would look really nice; at least better than plastic trim.

So this is doable? Would I have to lie foam down to support it?

    Thanks,
    Treston

I would leave the brace on the bottom on. If it is already off, euro-brace it then do a leak test for a week or two just to make sure you don't see issues with loss of strength. When you do place it on the stand, you will want to use foam under it if the brace is off. If it is not off, don't use foam.

I would def call the tank manufacture and see if it can be safely done, I remember a while back there was a guy that wanted to do that with his 10 gal tank, all was good for maybe a month or so then w/o the top part of the trim the tank failed, 10 gallons of water is alot, now compare that 2 75 gallons, I think spending an extra $100 or so dollars to buy a tank meant to go rimless is worth it for the piece of mind. Think about it this way, what if that tank fails in a year after youve put a ton of work and money into it??
