Had this thing in my room for awhile but have neglected it and I enjoy saltwater more anyway and want a nano tank in my room.

I actually have quite alot of money into it so I think Id be able to sell all the planted tank stuff and be able to afford to turn it into a reef tank. (canister filter with lily pipes, co2 setup, all the stones/driftwood, substrate, light id prob keep for a while then upgrade once tank is cycled) I think ill find out how much I could get and then decide

its a rimless mr aqua 17.4gal and theres room for a sump in the stand.

    what do you guys think

I mean even though ive neglected it, it still looks pretty good, great plant growth and everything but I dunno I kinda wanna break down my last freshwater tank and go reef its kinda sad

so should I break down and sell everything and turn it into a reef tank or get back into it and buy some new plants, get a co2 refill and start taking care of it again?

Im gonna ask my mom and see what she thinks but I figured it out and I could get about $350.00(maybe less not 100% sure jus guesstimating) for the planted tank stuff

then I figure id need this stuff for it to be a reef:

    Koralia evolution 1050: about $40
get glass drilled about/sump stuff: about $40
    Black paint: $4.00
    Return pump about:$40-50
    new light about:$120
    Skimmer:about $75
    Overflow kit: $50
    Rock: about $55.00
    sand: $20.00
    auto top off: $60

    so about: $514.00

so guess thats do able but id have to make some more money or wait until after my bday in April

or the new light would take alot off and would I even need a skimmer on a tank this small?

light I have now is a 96W PC with old bulb id get a 4 bulb t5

so if I kept the light jus got a new bulb and no skimmer

itd be about: $350 which would be perfect wouldn't have to spend any money given I made that much from the planted tank stuff

    do a reef

just go slow..you dont need everything right now..and plus we come across deals on here all the time with people getting out the hobby..just start it up and add stuff as you go..either way you got a couple of months before it gets a heavier bio load, and should 3-4 months before corals will be going in...i got my 250 sunpod for 50$ off my local reef club..

if it were my tank.. i would go ahead and get it drilled, buy the overflow, paint back, get return pump, rock and sand..so that around $200ish..if you sold all your planted stuff..then after you cycle you can get a skimmer, koralia, lights, and top off last..unless you come across a deal somewhere..

i would never run a reef tank without a skimmer..just me tho..

ok well talked to my mom and she thinks either way but is starting to like my reef tank alot

also forgot to mention the fact that to get the planted tank to where id want it to be as a planted tank would be atleast the difference in price if I turned it into a reef and got a skimmer and a new light

but if there not needed that be cool cause itd be a reef and I could do it now instead of saving and keeping the planted tank

I am gonna think overnight on it though an I dont have school tomorrow so if I decide to go reef I can take all the picture and sell the stuff then.

and yeah id get alot of the equipment off the Atlanta reef club WOW great deal for you though

cause I hate myself for rushing my first one I wish I would have just waited an started with the good light and everything

and theres no way im doing this one without an auto top off that was my biggest mistake on my first tank its just now starting to look good after all this time because of that :)
