Hello all! I've been sittin here doing research and wanting to get answers. I'm looking to get information on how to place pumps, how to place pumps for maximum efficiency, as well as best means for turnover/and getting into those hard to reach places :p.

A list of possible inhabitants would be most helpful as well; many soft and LPS corals cannot tolerate the same flow that would be needed for most SPS species.

You have great requests that beg to be answered. A general rule is to set up your circulation pumps so that they create random flow. One of the best way to do this is to set your pumps on opposite sides of the tank from each other so they are offset from each other and aim them to the side of the pump on the opposite side. An example would be to place one 4" forward from the back wall on one side and the other 4" from the front wall. The idea is to have the pumps aimed parallel to each other. This creates a rolling of the water when they encounter each other and thus create a random flow.

ok maybe i am mis understanding. but if you put them parallel to each other, on oposite ends, one front, one back. wont this just create a circular current?

Not if you set them so that they are only offset by a couple of inches. In a 12" wide tank the example would work well if your tank is wider you just need to adjust the position from the walls farther away.
