So, I've been thinking about setting up a second tank plumbed into my current set up... I would use the sump I already have with a pump to pump water into the second display. Of course, it will be drilled with an overflow.

I would want to make sure that with the pumps off, the sump can hold the extra volume of water that would be created (in case of power failure).

Can you think of any other problems or advice with a set up like this?

    Thanks!

    Will

one thing to think about is if you have something go wrong in one tank it would effect the other one also disease, chemicals, etc... other than that I dont see why it wouldnt work. make sure your sump equipment can handle the extra load and flow.

Those are the big negatives that you have to consider, but there are so many positives. More water volume is easier to maintain, less testing, one ATO, one skimmer, one controller, etc. I would use at least two heaters in case one goes. I have four in my sump. If your practices are good now, no problem. If not....

I have a friend that did that. Worked well for him.

Yeah, I'm already running three heaters... would probably add another one with this setup...

Yep I'm thinking that I may keep a nem and clownfish only tank... a 30 gal setup with some big nems and a pair of black and white Australian clowns.
