Hi i got out off bed late lastnight so decided to look at my tank and found two little bug things with black ball shaped eyes swimming round my tank like maniacs! My cleaner shrimp didnt seem to impressed by them!. I read somewhere on here about a little shrimp with black eyes and that they are bad? but cant find the thread.Thought it might have been on the hitch hikers tread but they are not. Can anyone tell me what they are? seems that i only have two in my tank....
    Thanks
    K

How big were they? Mantis Shrimp (maybe the shrimp u were thinking they were?) definitely have big bug black boggly eyes, but dont usually swim round as far as I know (usually u would just catch a glimpse of them in the rock)

They are about the size off a oval paracetamel pill & they swim around anoying things abit like a fly that keeps getting in your face! but yes they do have two black bobble eyes. i was thinking more on the lines off paracite but are they smaller? suppose could be baby shrimps?

You could try to have a better look using red light at night. Simply illuminate LR with red light (you can get it in the bicycle store) and watch all nocturnal inhabitants coming to it :) I use is quite often to check populations of different invertebrates that never show up during day.

Certainly sounds like mantis shrimp but having more than one is very unlikely and for them to be that small doesn't sound right either. Sorry that's not much help, perhaps you could try and get a picture or maybe look on google to get a better idea of what they were?

That is great article inwall75. I am just getting into the "bugs" of the sea, really cool. Good info.
