Hello my friends, I just got a $1/Gallon 29 Gallon tank from Petco and I want to get the VorTech pumps. I have a plan to upgrade to 55 Gallon later too.

My question is, since the MP10wES is rated at Flow up to 1,575 gph and tank size up to 50 gallons. Will two MP10wES (left and right) gonna do the job? Or you suggest just one MP40wES?

Hi, cfcheong. Generally, 2 smaller pumps will be better than one large pump. It will let you get better flow throughout the aquarium rather than high flow in one part of the tank with less on the other end. These can be synced to run together (or in opposite intervals) and you can make some pretty cool waves. One pump will act as a slave pump to the other. But I think 2 MP10s should be plenty for the 55g and you may be able to get away with one MP10 on the 29. They have a very wide angle flow output.

I would go with the 2 MP10 as they can be used on your 55 when you get it and still be quite effective. The previous reasons stated for using 2 are the same I have.

yea but when he realizes that a 75 is much more ideal for salt then a 55 because of the width, or even decides to go 100gal or 200gal, and then didnt buy the mp40 oh tisk tisk

haha but if you keep to your plan 2 mp10s will be perfect

LOL I know what you mean but right now I believe the OP is checking how the budget can handle things.

That's true, two MP40s are like $900-1000? I am not saying the MP40 doesn't worth the $ but I am not sure if I want to invest that much in this stage as I just starting this hobby. I may get two MP10 then::)

That is a good starting point if you are saving for the future.

The mp10 can be used on larger tanks. Grim uses an mp10 on the back wall of his 210 gallon if i recall correctly.

Anyway, i would go with 2 mp10's. But if a upgrade is in the very near future then go with the mp40. I think either way you will be happy.
