Well i'm no good at plumbing and i'm building a huge 3 tanks system. Got a professional doing it for me and he came up with this.

For my first 100G he wants to put two 2" pipes, 12" from each side of the tank no baffle or nothing . One reason is that i'm sculpting two acceleration sculpture for the closed loop returns and i can incorporate them into it. But what do you think of those two pipes straight up. He says C2C are redundant because of the efficiency of the skimmers these days and less pipe work is better too, no box, more fish space. No two pipe will obstruct at the same time.... kina logical , he even suggested now that i saved space with no external overflow boxes i can add 6" on the tank and make it a 24" wide instead of 18" ,but Any opinions on the rest?
    :-/:-/

I'm quite lost at the description; do you have any pictures or sketches you could show?

Welcome to the club, sorry no pict or drawing, because he just destroyed my sketches in a second, saying it was all old school , told him still current on sites yes but Europe are far ahead he says.... anyway.... its two pipes going down direct into sump, tada! 2" wide separate through the bottom of the tank no overflow box nothing with silencer of course but thats it. No lost room no other holes. I just put make up on the pipes. But thats what he asked me what i was going to do. So when he heard i was sculpting for my return he jumped on it saying you just saved yourself lots of plumbing , space and cost . So thats it.

Just found this picture you see the little fat tube on the bottom of the tank, well thats what he's talking about but higher with a smaller head of course but a drain that size straight down no baffles decorate inside the rock suclpture 2" wide.

If that gray & Black thing is your drain( Overflow ) along with what I assume are the returns I hope you have a huge sump in case of power failure. It looks like most of your tank would drain.

No that picture i found on the net its just to illustrate what he wants to put in my tank and it will be much higher, if you read its says it all . My question is something else, does it make sense . That picture is a close loop by the way...

I'm really excited for you and your build. I really, really wish I could give you some input or advice but I am seriously plumbing impaired. All of your descriptions go flying straight over my head :-/

Yes the guy took me by surprise too. All that talk from all the sites about that syphon this and overflow box and air tubes and he just laught and said where not buliding a sewage system its just a pipe going to another tank with a little care we can avoid disaster without piping your house in the process , he was quite funny. Hey he's an expert on plumbing and tank set ups. But what helped was the fact that i was decorating the return. so i'm working my end of the story too. otherwise it would have been a box somewhere i guess. This way i save space, money, less holes less materials, and more tank space andi can even add a 6" to my tank but thats $$ i wasn't really prepare to put in for a 24" wide and thats for the stand too and the othe two tanks Eeeeeeeeehhh:p:p:p

Lots of different designs could work, and most do work to some extent.
I read your explanations, and I'm assuming that pic is NOT your tank but used as an example, right?

    We need pics!

He has no pics. His friend is talking about 2 holes in the bottom glass of the aquarium with pipe shooting upward and pre-filters on the top..... if I got that right.

As long as the pipes are long enough so the whole aquarium does not drain down to the sump in the event of a power outage (which would cause a massive overflow of the sump) it should work. Its the same as corner overflows without all the extra plastic in front of it.

U would also need to make sure they are very accessible for cleaning.
