    Sounds good to me :)

If the pipes had the ability to slide up and down to adjust them to your desired water level, it would be ideal. Its the same principle as any overflow.

Also, u would have to research the right type of pre-filter, since u want to avoid a water twister ( sorry, don't know any other word for that). That would bring air into your closed loop.

Thats not for the close loop thats for the sump only the loop is seperate. Different system all together no connection what so ever. I need a huge drain system cause i have another system on top its a 80 G refugium dumping into the Reef tank to fertilise the tank and then it goes into the sump for skimming as well. The loop intake is in the back wall with screen 2" as well and is returned into the sculpture. the sump return goes into the refugium in the top tank to do the cycle.

I made a 3'x4'x14" deep tank with one 2"PVC center drain . One 14" pipe with a small 18" hose down into the sump tank. The sump is half full so if the electric goes out I have room in the sump for overflow. For a return I use a Magnum 350 Canister filter . Works great.

I guess my only worry would be a bulkhead leak. With an over flow it will only leak so much. Like that it can potentially leak all the water out.

True, but if hes running a closed loop it could potentially leak from those bulkheads too resulting in the same outcome. I dont think I could ever run a closed loop for that reason, to much risk imo.

This system sounds so crazy. I'm interested to see final product.
    Will it be stacked?

If I were going thru all that trouble I'd to an external overflow box with a bean animal in it. Of course stacking them would add a whole new layer of trickery...

The pane in your tank could let go too...anything is "possible", but one needs to consider "probable".

I've never, ever had a BH fail on any of the systems I've done. in fact, I worry about the CL's less than anything. CL's provide great flow without the use of all those unsightly and nowadays often expensive, PH's.

Then again, that's what's great about the hobby...1000 ways to skins the same cat.

No those bulkhead are schedule 80 are the best never leak the tank will break before they leak. That what the steel stand looks like , sorry for crude drawing my first using that program i started from the back so that why the right and the left are reversed

Top tank with on one side seahorses and mandarin the other Anglers and scorpios. Both with Macro-Algae , sandbed and miracle mud i've taken the tank out of the stand to see better

The main tank has changed a bit no more C2C and no more exterior overflow boxes , redundant the engenier said . 4 holes in the bottom( 2 X 2" for the drains and 2 X 2" for the closed loop return) and 2 X 2" for the Closed loop feed in the back panel. Both tanks are starfire glass. With the 6 " i saved with the overflow boxes gone i can have a 24"wide tank now instead of 18"

I made the stand so standing you can look down into it and in a chair it would be at eye level.
I have YouTube Reef tank new GU10 lights - YouTube of the lights. The other video you can see the sump. I still have an algae problem at this time.
