I say its going to be more like this one , but instead of 3 pipes in this box one 2" in one box like this and the other box just like this one in the middle , with a 1.5" pipe. The Refugium will have two 1.5" drains comming down into the Reef on each sides and these two will carry the loads of that 80G on top down to the sump and skimmer.

This picture is an example of a german company i can't connect still but i'm getting there soon.I can make my own , but their's is ceramic , much better. And the hole in the bottom will be pluged on mine.

    In the this plan

So you keep saying two drains, but you really main one big normal drain and one big emergency drain right? Not two separate herbie setups.?

I just got news from my designer at last he's waiting on the manifacturer's estimate to start on the desing, Amen, he need the prices of the parts to respect the budget so he's not getting into starting wasting time and effort doing blind sketches , thats what he told me. So Herbie is still on but i have no idea what shape he's going to be yet danm it! lol. I'm dreaming of that tank night and day now. I need this guy cause plumbing for me is like chineese, i can draw but don't ask me to calculate water volumes and circulation and how it does in a vacum . i'm lost. lol. i can sculp, glue, cut, mend, wax, weld, terraform, landscape, compute, but water,, lol i know why this hobby lol. ;D

You really do not need to calculate anything. PVC work is easy, and looking at flows is easy. If maintaining a reef tank is not over your head, then there is nothing about plumbing that is either. You really do not need somebody doing this for you. this forum alone can square you away with what ever you want to know. I already told you what you need for your Herbie. ;)

The thing is my last tank exploded when i was gone and i have no explanation because when i came back the mess had already been cleaned up so i had no clues to look at. And the people here where just mad and not cooperative. 3 condos where flooded mine and two below mine. The mushroom took into the walls and the renovations when into $143 000 damages for the 3 condos. Insurances went balistic, the neighbors went balistic , we went to court, short story, it was a year in jail or 5 years without any animals or water tank of anykind in my flat. So i am very nervous doing a system half way blind and by myself. So i hired someone who deals with this every day, and he knows my situation and he's on the record you see. I was a first offender with no money. The juge was very accomodating it was a suspended sentence but i wanted a clean record.
So now he called last night saying he was waiting for the manufacturer. The guy his very cool we're meeting again next week to iron out details before he starts. Its a professional and i'll have that as a record if i'm ever in a situation like that again. Ya we're all crazy in Canada, lol. He's also going to help set it up and will care for it when i'm on vacation, its his company . Costly, ?? 143 000 you tell me. My neighbors don't know it yet lol. I can't wait to see their faces when they see the truck pull up with the steel stand and the 3 tanks lol. ;D;D;D

I'd completely recommend you not touch any type of fish tank until you're out of there. Thats really bad judgement. You got really lucky. Really, really, really lucky. If it happens again I'm sure it will be pretty heavy sentencing.

You said it yourself you had no idea what happened. It could have been the floor becoming uneven and the tank stress cracking from the uneven flooring.

I'm pretty much certain the floor isn't the fault here its 12" reinforced concrete. One of the reason the mushroom invasion, thats one of the drawback of living in concrete, it absorb moisture and salt and attrack bacterias and can easely spread mushroom infestation in a building; we found that out with that episode. But now that i've changed job and i'll be here all the time no risk of that. Well you know less risk of that. I'm working at home now, so i'll be keeping an eye on things. But thanks for your concern. I actually narrow it down to the stand, it didn't have a brace in the middle. Anyway can't live in the past can't live in fear.

Well now herbie two became a one herbie. My pro had a brain storm and came up with a few mods. One only one box in the center that house the two herbies one 6 inch under the other the emergency and the return as well. That box we estimate 10 " round will be sculpted around and that it; three holes in the middle . We scraped the closed loop as well for a tunze wave box in the back that will be hidden by one of my sculptures. I've seen hir wave producing capacity and was sold. The reason i didn't want power heads is that they make a dent on starphire glass but a box on the bottom why not, so i'm solving lots of issues at the same time; noise issue with an exterior pump, plus building that noise box i was talking about. lots of plumbing including 4 more holes in the tank which i dont like , thats why i don't like the bean in the first place too many holes and extra over plumbing. and i gain a wave maker on top of that. my only concern will i need more flow. Than that tunze will provide.
