I think were that rule still comes into play is when people ask: how many fish can I have in my XXX Gallon tank? And people say 1" per X Gallons due to blah blah reason. I can see how it would be a good guideline when the tank is sufficient size for the fish being considered. I am a big proponent of pick what fish you would like to keep, then pick a tank based on that. I had to learn the hard way that, of all the cool fish out there, only a select few can be kept in a 29gallon. This made me upgrade way sooner than I had originally planned.

Upgrading is never a bad thing. :) haha. I have a 29g now and am still not sure on my stocking list. I think there are still quite a few fish that would work great though.

Of course there are, some of my favorite fish stay small and are suitable for a 29. It was a huge culture shock to me coming from freshwater only being able to have 4 fish in my 29. I was like "whaaa?" :stars: I had like 8 fish in my freshwater tank without a problem.

This makes me want to set up that 29 sitting in my basement.... Gee thanks ;D;D;D

I'm sorry maybe I need to clarify the tangs are 2" long, are very active and happy not aggressive towards each other the only fish I have that's aggressive is the clown and that's only when you go by his anemone. I'm not keeping this tank for ever, I have a 210 that I'll be setting up in a few months once I build a stand and figure out a filtration set up for it. So I've got mixed reviews overstocked or not? Thanks for the help

Right now, overstocked. When you get your 210 setup, not. I don't think you will find an experienced reefer who will tell you to add another fish to your current setup.

I agree with Country. Your 57g tank is overstocked when you consider full grown sizes of these fish. If the fish are as small as you say they are, it is fine for now, until you upgrade, but I would still not add anymore fish until you get your 210.

Shackman23 I have the same tank as you. Right now I have 1 royal gramma and 2 small clowns. I'm debating on what 1 or 2 small to medium fish to add then I feel like I'll be done. I myself would like to error on the side caution with my limited experience. This is my 2nd attempt, my 1st turned into a 29 gallon algea slash money pit. lol Good luck
