Ugh...I Think Its A Mantis

    Well...im a but on the down side today...i just heard 5 clicks in a row. Man i was hoping it was a pistol...well there really isnt anything i can do...i have 100+lbs of rock in my 55 gal tank with corals growing over more than 1 rock...they are all stuck together...is there anything i can do or just hope for the best...i have never seen the bugger...if i do maybe hes in a rock i can get...but i think hes in the back of the tank and its very hard for me to get a mirror back there :(...i guess i found out where all my hermits went

    Ya, im hoping...some people are saying that pistols can click more than a few times...ugh well i know its not my clowns...when they click it sounds funny lol ^^

    Their are traps that can be purchased to capture the shrimp. Also if you can locate it in a piece of live rock, try removing the piece of rock and force the mantis out. I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I pruchased a piece of coral on live rock. I notice something in a crevice on the rock so I watched for a little while only to find out it was a Mantis shrimp. So I removed the piece of live rock from the tank and stuck sometning in the hole and out popped the shrimp which I sold to the pet shop. That was too close for comfort though!!!!!!!

    Bruce, that many clicks in a row is USUALLY a pistol. Note the emphasis on the word "usually".

    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For the first time in years, I don't have a single mantis. :(

    yes, i dont hate mantis shrimp, i just dont want them eating my critters

    Bruce, I'm pretty sure it's a pistol shrimp. Mine sometimes clicks in sequences. 2-3 clicks, then again.

    i hope so...i did have a pretty big one a few months ago, i thought it died ...but i suppose it could have just molted...didnt seem like a molt though....hmm i wonder, the sound is sorta coming from where my watchman is....that would be great lol
