I have the seaclone 100 for just a starter on the tank. Yes im going to upgrade eventually. Im just curious how much i need to open the air valve to start getting the skimmate in the top cup?

If you are running as a hang on I believe that you should open it up all the way so that there is a air bubble in the tube and then slowly tighten the air valve. Tighten slowly until the air bubble goes away, stop when this happens. Sorry if this is not very clear, it has been awhile since I used mine.

the only good seaclone is moded seaclone. They are trash, but what i have isnt much better (it thinks an oddessy or something). next one its getting build from the ground up. The real trick to good protein skimmer is the impler on the pump. There are specific impelers that break the air into smaller bubbles then a normal impeler.

But its werid that your skimmate is turning pink. Is it just a calcium you are adding or is it mixed with something else? casue i couldnt imagine what is ur skim that would cause calcium to turn it pink

Seabeast..You will need to change out the air valve that came with the unit because you cannot fine tune it enough. Also give it time to break in before expecting anything to happen with it. Usually from 2-4 weeks. The modifications the other members discussed are worthy to do. I have replaced the air valve and drill two small holes in each impellar of the pump. It does seem to work better now. I am still going to cut down the inner tube to about 2 in. Just haven't had the time. Good luck and be patient with it. It will eventually start working, albeit not great, but working.

The skimmate I beleive was a precipitate. Upon checking my dKH, I found it to be about 15. Therefore it would make sense that the calcium bound the carbonate. Anyway, that is the only thing I could figure seeing that the calcium additive was pink in color.
