some can be cyano species, there are also brown appearing filamentous algae, which usually turns out to be a green algae. i am going with a cyano species by looking at it. what you have tried CUC wise?

if we can't figure it out I may take you up on a sample. the more you could send the better, I have a tank I can throw a bunch of cleaners at it and see what eats it.

I am fairly certain it came in on some rock out of Tampa if it helps.

    CUC:
    decorator crabs: eat it.
feeder ghost shrimp: eat it, but are so small it doesn't make a dent
brown leg hermit crabs: eat it
emerald crab: occasionally eats it, but prefers to be first in line for any fish food that makes it into the over flow.

The decorator crabs seem to be the only ones making an impact. They don't last very long in the DT and the time they are in there they spend more time running and hiding than controlling the algae.

Think a mantis will pass up limpets? Or are they doomed as quickly as everything else?

oh that is right...mantis tank...I have gotten conflicting reports on both chitons and limpets. it seems they don't go after them, but one guy said his mantis ate both in short time, so that makes me leary about saying they are fine with mantis shrimp.
