Uhh.... the stuff on the glass

    Hi i'm a newb to all this and i'm lookin for some input. I went to my LFS and i was looking at the marine tanks that had coral and such in it. on the back wall there was this purple and green stuff, almost like patches covering everything, even on the power heads like a build up i'd call it......is this detritus???? im not sure what is it can anyone tell me??

    It's coralline algae. Totally normal. Seems to spread with alkalinity at 4 meq/L or so and calcium over 350. Certain lighting affects it too.

    Coralline Algae Is a good thing and you do want it in your marine tank here is a link that explains Coralline Algae and the stages of Coralline Algae growth I think it will help a lot .................... John ;) ;D
