Very cool! I actually just bought the same tank yesterday to be used for dwarf sea horses. Excellent info on the skimmer; I will be curious to see how it does once you have livestock in there.

Originally I planned on dwarfs for this tank. I kept them a couple years back but I don't think I have the drive it takes to keep them anymore. It would be a perfect tank for them, good luck with yours.

The fish is on it's way.
I have to admit I'm nervous. Livestock that I really want never seem to make it. Case in point a glaborous male & Tanaka's pygmy wrasse that came two years apart but both DOA.

My order came in this morning and everything looked very nice! The little Assessor was very active in the bag and the few corals had great color and the bag water was nice and clear. The two heatpacks in the box were still warm and best of all no bag leaks.
So the whole order consisted of:

    ORA A. flavissimus
    3 Florida ceriths
    Halloween Hermit
    GSP frag
    Orange/green Ric
    rooted halimeda
2 mystery corals. This is the second best part of this order. ;)
Both mystery corals are 2" frags. Not ugly or browned out junk, not run of the mill polyps, softies or shrooms...
#1 Red and green Acan Enchinata
#2 Purple and green w/ orange eyes chalice
    :):):):)

Pics will come later. The fish hit the rock work as soon as it was released. Hope I get to see it again. lol

It fits the 8 gallon well now but as it grows I'll eventually have to move it to a larger tank. I hope it makes it to that point actually. I don't have the best of luck with livestock that has a higher price tag.
2011- G. glaborous male mantis $300.00+shipping (because it was special collect and male)...DOA
2012- Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse (not seen often in hobby) $59.00+shipping....DOA
2012- Banded Red Finned Basslet (rarely seen in hobby) $69.00+shipping...acclimated and qt for 15 days, put in tank, went MIA. Presumed dead, found 2 months later living in drain side of overflow box under the filter sponge. Moved to empty frag tank after rescue...carpet surfer.
I'm on 3 lists for a Flaming Prawn Goby. If that fish ever becomes available I will order it. If it survives shipping I'll put it in this aquarium and move the Assessor out.
    Anyway...
I was kind of disappointed in the color and hope it was just faded because of shipping stress.

Not good luck indeed. I have a Yellow Banded Possum in my 28 and is an awesome fish! I actually did see a Tanaka at one of my LFS, but it was in a DT and they would not sell it.

Interesting on the colors of it; I read that tank bread (ORA) may not be as brilliantly colored as wild. It may still color up after acclimating.

I spent most of the day traveling from my desk to the sales counter to peek into the tank for a glimpse of my fish. All day and no sign of it. It's amazing how well they can hide in such a small area. That's what I kept telling myself.....
The corals that came looked good today. The ric was filling out, the acan and chalice puffed up but the GSP only had a few polyps extended all day. From my experience with this weed, I think that is strange, especially when I add some uber green shrooms this morning and by 5p.m they are fully extended. But if the gsp doesn't make, I won't sweat it to bad, I only got it for the wavey action and the yellowish fluorescence under the blues, both of which will get the customers attention and make them say Awwwww wow! :)

So I came home and went fraggin crazy! Started cutting a few zoo's and ended up cutting my ORA purple pocilipora, ORA hyancith, LengSy rip off cap, idaho grape, pavona, green digi, superman digi, orange digi, two cuts of duncan; one five heads the other 4, and completely removing a blue A. nana that was being shaded by larger faster growing acros. The polyps I cut are bambams, tubbs blues, purple death, radio actives, and eagle eyes.

To end the day I snuck into the store with lights off and peeked into the tank with a red light. My Assessor was chillin on the sand, out in the open about an inch from a low over hang. :)
