I currently have a bad case of red cyano in my tank, and I was reading someone's post about using a phosban reactor or chaeto ...cheato? (idk) to help get rid of it...
Im just wondering... what is that stuff? Where do I get it from?
    Any suggestions/info is greatly appreciated.

a phosban reactor is a device that holds phosphate removing media by slowly pumping water through it..

cheato is a macro algae that people use in a fuge that feeds off the phosphates and a little nitrates in the water column as it passes through the fuge

cyano comes from dirty water, but also can be caused from not enough flow through the tank, where detrius builds up causing the dirty water..increasing flow usually gets rid of it..

also making sure ur using and topping off with RODI water that reads 0 on a TDS meter

oh wow thank you. I'm not sure how to hook it up but I can figure it out. And I don't have a refugium.. I'm not even completely sure what that is yet. (i'm 6 months in on this whole deal... lots to learn!) and I had my LFS guy come over and adjust my water flow, and I added an extra pump.. I scraped off a lot of it off of my rocks with a brush... but a couple of days later it came back in certain places. Not so much the rocks but places on the sand. I don't want to rearrange the pumps cuz the guy said their in a good place... so I guess I should buy this carbon thingy.

if you're scraping it off, you also want to vacuum it out... get rid of as much as possible...
If you're nitrates are low enough, it will eventually go away...

I had a problem with Cyano recently.
I have used a product called MYCOSIDOL made by Colombo. It has worked brilliantly. It targets just the Cyano, the instructions that come with it are rubbish & tell you almost nothing about the best way to use it & I searched the net for info with no luck!
Having now tried it my self & seen how well it works with no ill effects to my fish, inverts, corals & no effect to my DSB sump efficiency I will be keeping some for any future blooms.

I hope this helps & if you decide to go that route let me know & I can let you know what procedure I used to treat my set up :)

When you do a water change you can use the siphon created to suck the Cyano from surfaces :)
