I think mixed reefs are fun, with a variety of corals (and behaviors, to go with it). I have a 29g as well. I set it up Jan. 04 of 2011. It's been a reef for about 5 months now. You can check it out by clicking the link in my signature.

So, I would suggest a mixed reef, beginning with soft corals, (which are easier to care for) then move into LPS and SPS, as you get the hang of it and know more about the care requirements of the specific corals.

A great rule of thumb to follow is, "go slow, let it grow." Good filtration and stable water parameters (while not tinkering with/putting hands in the tank too much) will lead to a great reef tank.

I assume you have test kits for nitrate, phosphate, pH, alkalinity, magnesium, and calcium?

I guess I'm already heading in the direction of a mixed reef. Right now I have green star polyps, purple mushrooms, trumpet, and a galaxy. My next will probably be some sort of leather? idk.

Well, turns out the Midas Blenny had some issues. However, I did find this wonderful Flametail Blenny that I picked up. Below is a picture of him in my LR, as well as some random shots.

Thanks I appreciate it. Just letting it age so I can start adding harder to keep corals.

Sorry I didn't reply to your thread again earlier. I would just recommend getting a magnesium test. You are going in the right direction. keep up the good work.

    Interesting aquascape...I like it.

It's all good. You get to the thread when you get to it. I just need 1 more chunk of LR on that left side near the pipe and I'll be done as far as rock. As far as the aquascape, I also find it quite interesting. I'll look into getting the magnesium test as well.

    Thanks again.
