So my clam looked great last week and over the last few days was open just not all the way. When I woke up this am I had an empty shell. I was not to impressed ive had it for along time and measured over 11 in from side to side. I am shocked to say the least. I tested water straight across the board and everything is great. Grrrrrr seriously not my day.

Lioghting was not the issue. It had plenty it is a 250 x3 plus t5s. It had nothing to due with lighting. I have had this clam years. something went funky. Just venting about it. stinks that is all.

How did you loose an 11 inch clam without having a spike in amonia or at least nitrite? How big is your tank?

Oh darn... Sorry to hear.. That clam was a really nice looking one too.
I lost my maxima clam 3 days ago too, same unknown reasons. It sucks :(
I've read that clams die slowly in a tank without showing any signs till it's to late.

did something turn vogue and decide to eat at it? I had the same thing happen to my 12" clam, it was beautiful, open reactive and then one day it was all sunken in and melting. It killed me but I decided to move it to my FOWLR tank and allow my golden puffer to eat it. I never did figure out what killed it but my bet is my reef safe bellus female angel got a taste for clams one day!

I have an koran angel about 6 in I also have 2 cross hatches. I dont know if something ate it but I am on the defensive! I think it kicked its butt. I am no impressed. I did see signs of nipping. I am not happy about this loss.

Maybe it was just old age? I've had some mysterious clam deaths as well, but I didn't have them for years.
