Thought you might find this kind of amusing.

I left my tank alone whilst I went to Stuttgart for the weekend thinking that it would be ok for a couple of days.

The first thing I saw when I got back was a huge pile of sand in the middle of the tank. Looked a bit closer. One of the powerheads is held in place with 4 suckers on the side of the tank. The top 2 had come off so that the powerhead was pointing down into the sand!

Of all the probs that I thought might happen, this never occurred to me.

In direct line of fire was a frag that used to have 9 purple mushrooms on it. Now it only has 2. Hopefully the other ones will pop up aroung the tank soon.

Only casualty seems to have been my galaxia which was buried under the sand and now looks to be a bit on the dead side. Will leave it a few days to see if it makes a recovery but am somewhat doubtfull.

If you have a drilled tank for it, you use pvc to create a 'loop' with a pump to create circulation. It's closed because the water only goes in a circle, out the tank, to the pump and back into the tank.

I've had the same thing happen before. I now use korlias for internal circulation, they have magnetic holders.

I had a similar problem once in my tank. I switched to the Koralia pumps as well. They have a suction cup and a magnet holding them in place. They hold so tight, they are actually hard to get off - even on thick glass.

My other powerhead is a korola with magnetic suction cup. Definately a much better idea. Will go to the lfs this w/e to get another one to replace the one that fell off - it won't stay up for more than 2 mins now.

Of all the things that can go wrong on a tank, I wouldn't have guessed that this would happen when I was away.

Ive had the same problem before too. Koralias look like the way to go for a non-drilled tank...
    Thanks!
