Good luck making her happy. My wife loves the tank. About 90% of my trips to the LFS are with her. She is learning about reefs at a rate not so far behind me. Although lately I have been buying more equipment than livestock which doesn't interest her so much but she understands its part of making the tank nicer and easier maintained.

Just think, couple hundred dollars one time and many hrs spent watching and reading about fish, or going to a bar and spending the time and much more money there?? plus once you get a big enough tank she has to atleast kinda like it, thats what im hoping once im done with my 125gal ;) also my wife loves the LFS store too, and understands what the equiptment does, i try to explain most of it but she only sees the pretty fish:D

As one said, everyone's relationship is different. My wife doesn't give a wink for jewelry. If I bought her a Rolex as a gift she'd look at me funny. IMO, one thing that's paramount to a sucessful relationship, is mutual respect. That means giving each other the time and space to enjoy those things that give solace to your lives.

My wife doesn't have much interest in my tank, but she'll ask an occasional question and border on feigning interest to simply keep me happy. It might sound superficial but IMO it's one of the many ways she shows her love. She asks these questions not to gain information, but rather to show me that what's important to me, is important to her--even if she could care less about it.

I absolutely detest soap operas. I hold them in the same regard as I do shows like Jerry Springer and Judge Judy (I don't mean to offend any fans of the afforementioned). In my closed mind, I'm ashamed to admit that I sometimes think that only simpletons would watch such shows. When my wife gets her next degree, I'll be calling her Doctor. Suffice it to say she's no simpleton.

Funny story. . . on NPR I heard a funny fact about how when Thurgood Marshall (once supreme court justice) held office, he'd hear no cases after 1:00pm on weekdays. Why? Because he was such a fan of The Young And The Restless, that he had to be home for airtimes of the show! So much for my theories!!!!

I wish I could feign interest in my wife's love of soap operas as much as she does in my love of reef tanks. I'll never be as good a husband as she is a wife. I'm a lucky one. Othwise, I'm a pretty good husband and attempt to be as sensitive to her needs as I humanly can.

My point is that while I have no answer for your dilemma; I'm a huge believer in what I feel is a fact that relationships are give and take. If she doesn't like your tanks, it's not the end of the world. However, if your love of fish tanks causes her pain and ends up making her yet less interested in you--then maybe you'd both be better off matched with someone more tolerant of your interests?

    Good luck with this one.

Haha it's just a ploy. She really loves the tank, but she can use the "hatred" to her benefit sometimes I'm sure!
