my husband bought me some mushrooms and zo's two weeks ago. I can't even tell you what they look like because i have not seen them, they won't open. i have polyps that won't open either and the last mushrooms i had just died. I wonder why they are not happy in my tank ? Everything else is just fine as you can see.

    here are my parameters:
    sg 1.024
    ph 7.9-8.2
    dkh 4
    phosphate 0.05
    nitrate 0
    ca 450
    iodine 0.03
    mag 1625
    temp 80

    here a pic

    any idea?

when i say pH 7.9 - 8.2 means its at 7.9 in the morning and goes up to 8.2 during the day. I have no problem raising it to 8.3 but i have some seachem pH buffer that also raises dkh. Since my alk is already at 4 meq/l i dont really want to get up higher. Is there a way to only raise pH and not the rest?

No I don't know. Give the polyps time they will open.

Even after two weeks? The older polyps havent opened since they got in my tank (about 1 year ago). There alive they just dont open. And the mushrooms that just disapeared???? I dont want that to happen to my new ones. Anybody ever seen this? The rest is just fine... i have a ric that fully extends but the mushrooms on the LR right next to it never do.

do you have any hermits or shrimp? it's obvious but sometimes they tend to walk all over polyps. if your parameters are indeed those you stated above...perhaps the polyps are still acclimating. your lighting doesn't seem too intense...you do have one leather but i can't imagine chemical warfare would be the reason. i'd say give it some time and possibly run some carbon because of the leather. you could always move the zoas away from the leather to see if that is the culprit. hth.

Thanks jonathan. I do have some hermits and im sure they've been on the rock (there hermits!!!) but its not a reason for the zo's not to open for 2 weeks IMO. The Zo's started on the DSB but after a couple of days i put them up higher since they werent opening, thought they werent getting enough light. Lighting is 130Watts of PC on a 20gal. My bulbs are old though i know i need to change them. So basicly i just dont know.

Have you tested your tank for stray voltage?

Ok my husband explained to me what stray voltage is. But how do i go about testing for that? His idea is to stick an electrical tester in the water and see if he gets a reading. Would that be the way?
