I have to redo a little of my plumbing with my new sump design. I want to add some unions. Just need opinions..Do they leak at all? I have 1 inch pipe. Do I use a 1 inch union or do I have to make the pipe bigger for a bigger union? Is there any restriction? Good idea to add them or no? Thanks

They wont leak provided you dont lose the O-ring and keep it tight. Stay with the 1" union and plan ahead where you want to put the union. try to keep it as accessible as possible.

don't know about leaks but they will go on strike when you least expect them and then they want health benifets and all that garbage they have to have there 15 min breaks hour lunch ugh. O wait you are talking about your fish tank. just kidding to all the hard working union guys out there.

unions are great and if you do them right they won't leak. they alow you to take apart your plumbing when there is a problem and then you can put it back together. you can stick with the same size union as your current plumbing. It is also a good Idea to put backflow preventers in case power goes out and water starts draining intp sump.

I have 6 of them on my setup. 1 inch. Just so I can take them apart if I need to clean the pipes. As long as you tighten them enough. They're good.

Thanks guys. Is hand tightening ok or do you have to crank them down with a channel lock or something?

Hand tighten. If you use a tool you may crack them.
