I have a chance to buy a used bak pak 2 w/combo box skimmer.

I no NOTHING about skimmers and wanted to know if this is a good skimmer?

    I have a 29G FOWLR tank.

He is willing to sell it to me for $65.

    Should I take the deal?

Honestly, I would not buy it. I use to use one and while it did a decent job, I was always fighting micro bubbles and large bubbles caused by how the output is designed.

What is the budget on your skimmer purchase? There are a number of users here who run HOB style skimmers and can help you find a good skimmer within your budget.

I use a CPR Bak Pak Dual Pak Skimmer and am actually very happy with it. it took some tweaking but i got it to work the way i wanted it to. very few micro bubbles in MD now and it pulls a decent amount of skimmate out. with the proper adjustment of the outlet and legnth of air line it will do a good job for you. This is just my personal opinion and I'm nowhere near an expert but if it were me and i had that chance i would do it. I'm sure there will be a lot of people on here that will disagree but this is just me. Good Luck

I think its a good deal, not to go against what was said above bc this is hit and miss. If it where me id go there and want to see it in action first. I used to have that exact setup on my 29 gallon reef and it did a good job.

On the flip side if you can find a good octo HOB or even an aqua c remora id go that way.

The aqua c remora hob is a good skimmer. I just bought it with the surface skimmer at marineandreef.com. Use coupon code sep5sav and save 5%... No shipping charge as well.

How long has it been in use? If it's clean, not worn and in good working order, it's definitely a deal.

    Looks great!!!

Def a good buy if no cracks and not dirty inside.

For just the skimmer and NO pump it's about $130 brand new.

You can run a Mag5 and overdrive that bad boy!!!

That's exactly the skimmer I plan on using for my next nano!

I have heard a lot of good things about them!!!

That is the skimmer I have on my 36bf and I really love it. At first you will get a lot of micro bubbles, but they will taper off. I also notice i get a lot of micro bubbles after I feed. Bummer there is a big crack in the collection cup, but it looks like it's high up enough that it shouldn't effect much. They are excellent skimmers. Mine has the maxijet 1200 and adds a ton of flow to the tank. I bought mine used also - $75 w/ the pump.
