It seems to have gotten worse. Not only did I loose my goby, one of my feather dusters blew his top off, then the worm left its stem, then last night I noticed another one left, and late last night, the third one left. My tank was getting cloudy and figured the darn things were dead. I took the 4th one and took it out. I just can't afford for those beautiful things to ruin my tank.

I got the goby replaced, he is a much smaller one, not as much fun to watch but he will grow in time.

I have been trying to build a canopy for my bow front, man this is a mess. Everytime you think you have the measurements right, and you go ahead and cut your wood, sand it, put it together, and guess what, it doesn't quiet clear the bow. I have decided to put it away for a few days, I am just to frustrated to deal with it.

sometimes its easier to just walk away from things and come back to them with a clear head. I am sorry to hear about your loss, do your water changes and the cloudyness will clear up. check your water parms and make sure everything is where it is suppose to be. Also with the wood, measure a little more then you think you need so that when you sand it, it will fit right. as one person on here said go slow, good things happen to those that do.

good luck and keep us posted

No to trivialize your troubles my man, but I've seen worst in a single day.

One time, I don't know what the hell happened, but I was fist working on my sump, and something wasn't regulated and it overflowed and drained 80% of the tank. I got home to a massive flood, the 20% of wa ter left was just clouded up, and every single fish was white as a sheet. I lost like 4 neon gobies that day, a firefish, and a hippo tang. All in one shot.

It could be worst. The point is to keep pressing on. Anything that's worth fighting for, will prove that it's worth fighting for. I'm still paranoid and always check my sump return rate. Multiple times a day if I'm home, even tho I haven't had any problems in months. It causes a lot of frustration at time, always feeling uneasy, and having my return powerhead always ont he highest causes massive bursts of microbubbles in the tank. But I deal with it as opposed to having it too low ont he return and causing the tank to overflow. It's something I need to rework for a peace of mind, but that's another story.

But again, just keep pressing on, don't let it get to you. I've come a VERY far way in the last 6 months or so. I went from a small box for a betta splenden, to a 10 gallon, to a 30 gallon, to now being on a 55 gallon about three weeks now. I've learned a hell of a lot about the hobby and still learning from all the vets on here, inwall, stoudt, packleader, Pharmrjohn, otty, reefsparky, packleader, dr.frag, etc...

As for the woodworking, I think we've all suffered the short or over cutting. And sometimes measuring twice and cutting once doesn't do the trick. I'm not sure what exactly is causing your grief on it, but keep in mind when measuring, allowances for the thickness of the saw blade and where it's placed, the placement of the tape and where you draw your lines. Again, I'm not exactly sure on your woodworkind details, but you can always put the sheet of wood or paper over the entire top of tank, take a pencil to it and make a perfect template of the area that needs to be covered.

Don't let the hobby beat you, it's a hobby, and supposed to be fun, but moments like these is what truly adds to making it give such a fantastic sensation of accomplishment when you finally get everything in order. Something else I've learned in my last six months is that it's a constant work in progress.

thanks for all the good advice. I am hanging up on feather dusters for a while. As for the canopy, that is just sitting there until I have enough patience to tackle it again.

Afterdark, sorry to hear about your pump, that bites.

thats a good call on the template. it will make everything so much easier. especially with a bow front. it will give you the perfect curvature and measurements. good luck catz

A friend of mine made my canopy for my 72 gallon bow and he made it in two sections.

1 part for the rectangle part and 1 part for the bow and joined them by piano hinges so that i could access the tank easily. Not sure if that helps you any but keep plugging you will get it.

I didn't read every word in here but I DID want to menton that when feather dusters SPAWN they lose their feathers and they cloud the water with their.....coital goo...... They drop the feathers so that they don't eat their "offspring in the making"
