Here's a few pics on the Trumpet Coral and Toadstool my hubby bought me on Valentines day. SO far so good none are dead....I've been following Geeks advice. I've done 2-3 gallon water changes all week and stopped kalkwasser, and am adding only Purple Up. I'm going to start on a two part additives when I stop doing the water changes, when I reach a full 55 gallons...So far everything looks great except the zoa's haven't returned...didn't think they'd make it though.......

Great pics. Were you having problems with keeping calcium steady? If so, I'm having the same issue. I believe it is affecting my kh. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yep...Ca, Mg and Alk all the important ones.....they wouldn't stay right and I've never been able to keep Zoanthids (for some reason). Sorry, but about this problem, I'm probably the worst person to give advice... I stay confused. I'm just trying something different.

    GEEK...you wanna help Mission out????....

Congrats cuttingras! Wow, most women receive chocolate and flowers, but you receive corals!!!!!! AWESOME!
As for your problem missionsix66, calcium can become a problem with maintaining as cuttingrass touched upon. Alkalinity and magnesium can also affect calcium levels as well as the amount of corals, Tridacna Clams, Halimeda plants and coralline algae.
Other factors that equate into calcium stability in a tank are as follows:
Temperature- will reduce calcium levels due to increased carbonate ions concentration
Photosynthesis-lowered CO2 increases carbonate concentration, thus decreasing calcium levels, alkalinity and magnesium as well.
pH- higher levels of pH will increase carbonate calcification, thus eventually reducing calcium level.
Salinity-higher salinity levels will reduce alkalinity levels thus affecting calcium levels.
Kalkwasser or two part additives are your best bet in terms of alkalinity and calcium levels mainly, but other variables are also key such as time adding these additives(day time versus nighttime) dosing vinegar with kalkwasser, incorporating reverse daylight program with the addition of a refugium housing macroalgae etc.

He thought about the chocolates and the flowers, but he knows me. Though I do love chocolate and flowers, my butt doesn't need the chocolates and the flowers would just die. I got a pretty smart guy(it's only taken 25 years for the perfect present )

    (Karma to you - :) )

    Very nice! Thanks for sharing.

Looks like you have a nice young'un sprouting off Sarcophyton. Lop it off and shove in hole elsewhere in tank....Then you will have two growing.

I think two together looks a bit unbalanced, plus they will expend lots of energy competing for light.

Thanks for the kind words Omard! I'm looking as I type, for a razor to do that. Do I need to dip either in iodine or just do it in the tank and let them be?
