I've been surfing the net for about five hours tonight and have found a fair number of threads on different sands including this one. I've searched all over the Grand rapids michigan area for southdown or tropical play sand andthe only product from old castle i can find is Kolorscape play sand.

Tomorrow after work if i'm able to i'm going to smuggle some vinegar to the nearest home depot and check on the bubbles. Would i get a better result using pool acid or something stronger?

I was just wondering if anyone who's tried this would be willing to give an update as to how well its doing. I'm looking at puting some into a long term project tank and seeing how things go. I just dont want to have to curse the day i added the stuff to the tank since i'll most likely be using about 36o lbs of it i'm not looking forward to removing it.

I might just snad a dozen or so bags and store it until i can find out more about it or test it in a smaller set up for awhile. I can always try it for african cichlids or hell for landscaping :p.

I'm working on cutting back some fresh water tanks so i am thinking a larger salt water tank would be a nice tank to watch and one i coudlnt dread doing water changes on :p.

Anyhow thanks for the input, and if anyone has a copy of the companies assay on the product it would save me waiting on them to get back (seems the more specific you ask the slower they are to respond).

    Thanks for your time.

Been searching locally, no such luck so far :(. I"ll keep looking its not something i "have" to have but something that would make my winter stuck inside (i dont much like snow) a lot more interesting :D

maybe i'll just do it up as another FOWLR and get the powder blue grouper that bit me the other day :D

How did it go with the Kolorscape play sand? Did it work out well or are you kicking yourself in the butt for using it?

I once bought 3 60lb bags of Southdown from this guy:

    Idaho Saltwater Emporium
    6212 W State St
    Boise, ID
    83703-2743
    Phone: (208) 854-0700

He bought it by the pallet load just for folks like us.

Savings in sand more then made up for shipping costs..

Call him and see if he still carries it.
