    Thanks for all the great info. I have a rather larger than needed protein skimmer im going to plug into the tank. Then Im going to disconnect the HOBs and just try skimming and my normal water changes. (Water changes are interesting since I do not have running water in my house here) Thanks again!

    It's really common sense. Any free floating garbage can't be sucked up by the skimmer. Leading to many problems such as cloudy water.
