Good afternoon everyone I have an issue maybe someone can help with. I just got a new 56 gallon for xmas and I am in the process of moving everything over.

I removed most of my old live rock and added with about 40 pounds of uncured into my new tank. Corals and fish are currently in the other tank awaiting the new cycle. Here is my issue

I only have 1 Protein skimmer (Remora Aqua C), Fluval 405 and JBJ 36' quad t8 HO hood. Should I move all the equipment over to the new tank to assist with curing process and do water changed on my old tank or should I leave both on and wait for the process to finish on the other tank 1st?

I have 3 zoe clumps, and some mushrooms 2 perculas 1 coral beauty, 1 chromis
Let me know what yall think. Thanks!

Hello, Kadoogen. Congrats on the new tank.

It would be best to leave all your equipment and livestock in your old tnk while the new one cycles. Let the process happen on its own and don't try to speed it up. Once your parameters are good and the cycle has passed, you can then transfer equipment over to the new tank. When you are sure everything is ready, move the livestock over.

You need to have current and filtration in both tanks.Lighting on the new tank isnt critical.

A protein skimmer is not necessary until your cycle is complete. I would argue that it actually prohibits the process.

But, if you have a refugium already setup in this new tank, then I would leave that running so all the water cylces together.

Nothing is on it at the moment, I just have two 480gph power heads circulating the water and a heater.

The current specs are 1.024 SG, 76 degrees F
and about 6ppm ammonia!(I think its spiking ATM)

I also used about 5 to 10 cups of old live sand to help seed and about 5 gallons of water. The old tank was a year old so this should hopefully help the new cycle a little faster.

I saw an emerald crab that hitched a ride somehow on a old piece of live rock but i cant seem to find him now, hopefully hes hiding and will survive.

Thanks for the help so quick, now I can sleep a little better. ;D

You are welcome. Adding the small amount of sand and water is a good idea...and it does sound like you are at the high point of your cycle.

I forgot, powerheads are good to have now as you do not want the water to be stagnant. That would make for a very bad smelling tank.

Good luck to your little crab friend. lol. ;)
