    30" deep will need MH unfortunately, if you have light sensitive animals. Your electric bill won't go up that much, it's a common misconception. What adds up is when you have huge pumps, chiller and intense lighting that your bills goes up. I switched from 260w CF to 380w (250w MH with 130w CF actinics) on my 150G, and 65w CF to 70w HQI on my 20G and my electric bill went up $20 a month but is was mostly due to running my chiller during the summer.
