I picked up a used 80 gal bowfront with stand and hood. It has about 50 lbs of live rock and lots of gravel, dry coral and a few hermit crabs. Also a under tank sump with built-in plumbing. The sump has a 3 pad filter and a bio wheel.

My plans are to put in a home made undergravel filter using 3 power heads to improve circulation and chemistry. Add a skimmer in the sump and a UV system to help control bugs and bad green, not sure where to plumb it in for low flow, maybe the sump return? Thinking of using a Ehium canister filter also. For lighting a 48" T5 HO lamp system using split timing on 2 x 54W 12,000K Fluorescent Lamps, 2 x 54W Actinic Lamps and 4 x Dual Bluemoon LEDs. Using a sequence like the real world.

Need to know your thoughts and where I have planned well and not so well.

I thought under gravel filters were bad for saltwater tanks?

That's why I'm asking, "Marine Aquarium Handbook writen by Martin A. Moe" loves them and recommends them for salt tanks

I wouldn't use the canister filter as it can become a nitrate factory and cause problems. I haven't really heard of people using under gravel filters in saltwater before, but that doesn't really mean to much I guess. You could wait on the UV Sterilizer honestly. Just get a good CuC and keep your fish happy and you shouldn't really need one. I would probably do away with the biowheel filter as well. They can help produce more nitrates then you will want as well.
