so i currently have a asm g1-x that has a sedra 3500 on it. Is it possible to replace that pump with a sedra 5000 and keep the same skimmer body?

did a couple google searches on your skimmer. the 3500 meets the specs of the skimmer. why do you want to put the 5000 on it? all skimmers are rated for a specific flow for maximum results, to much lowers the results.

You have the ASM G1-X on a 55 gallon system and you want to jump from a SEDA 3500 and then use a 5000 ? I'd have to ask why :) You are already skimming the water to much as it is IMO and I think you feel you are not getting enough skimmate from the cup or it runs flat sometimes maybe ? May want to just soak the whole pumpand skimmer in a bucket with some CRC5 or what is it ?? LIMEAWAY and run the pump with its setting in the bucket just mix it stronger and use less wter then the label sugguest.. Us freshwater though :)

well i am upgrading my tank in the next 3 weeks and i was wondering if i upgrade to a 75 or 90 gal tank if i would be able to upgrade the pump and not the skimmer body. but if you think the current sedra will suffice then that is one less cost I have to worry about. thanks for the advice

your skimmer is rated for tanks up to a 150 gallons. the skimmers recommended max flow is 250 g/hr. sedra 3500 rated @ 350 gph, the sedra 500 @ 500 gph. taking into effect head pressure the sedra 3500 should be just fine any more and your not letting the skimmer grab the water long enough to do the job.

its possible but your minimizing the skimmers capabilities.

why not just mod it? I got the asm g1-x from ardo_ski that he had already mod'd the crap out of. Its got the gate valve mod, and needle wheel mod, makes it work a heck of a lot better and even bumps it up to good for 200g if Im not mistaken.

I would do the recirculiation mod and mesh mod. If you can than feed the skimmer via your drain line this will definalty make a difference. What you will need it a T in the line in case you have too much flow. The gate valve mod helps in adjusting the skimmer. Looking at the size they run the 5000 on I think it might not work. Let me know if you have any questions on the mods I will do what I can to help.

    G1x - 5.5" x 22.5

    G2 6.5 x 21.25

    G3 6.5" x 25" Sedra 5000
