    Hi guys

I was looking at getting a 27g tank but having thought it over and looked at the space i have im thinking a 40g might be a better idea as i know for a fact i will want to upgrade anyway. Problem is ive asked all my questions based on the old tank. any chance you can let me know if these will still be adequate..thanks

    Tunze 9002k skimmer
    2x koralia 1s powerheads
Filter/heater that comes with the tank (live rock rubble in the filter)
    15k Live Rock

also would I still be able to run the tank without the aid of a sump?

Im looking at keeping soft corals and clownfish at first being my first tank

    Thanks

15k is perfect for a 27 g, but you're going to need about 1-2 lbs (so .5 kg) per gallon if you want to upgrade

Something I came across today that I had not thought about before, the 1-2lb liverock/gal rule is based on the fairly dense figi rock already soaked with water weight included. If you buy dry baserock that does not have water weight added into it you need much less rock. People swear by sumps and fuges but I do not have one at this time. Everyone told me it would be better but not a must have espiacally since I do not plan on doing SPS corals

Although a skimmer is completely optional (as is a sump), the Tunze 9002k will still be fine for fish and soft corals in the 40g.

The 2x Koralia 1s will also be sufficient as they will still provide 20x turnover.

You may find that you want more rock once the tank is set up. Too many variables to pinpoint an exact pound-per-gallon recommendation; just build a nice scape with plenty of places for corals and you'll have enough. :)

A sump is basically a place for added water volume, housing heaters, skimmers and for easier top off.

Have you given any thought into a refugium?

i have a 35 gallon tank with 25 gallon sump and had the tunze . the tunze 9002 a great skimmer but was not enough for my high bio load. so if you love lots of fish, or think you may want to do sps rethink your skimmer.

tunes words on the 9002 "this skimmer should be used only in aquariums with about 50 to 100 litres (13 to 26 USgal.) of water. Mixed aquariums or soft coral aquariums up to 200 litres (52 US gal.)"

i thought the tunze would be fine in my tank but it wasn't. i now have the SWC 120 cone. and its a perfect fit
