I currently have a 20 gallon and am going to purchase a 65 gallon. In my 20 I have 2 green chromis, 1 ocellaris, 1 mandarin goby, 1 coral banded shrimp, 1 chocolate chip, 1 torch coral, 1 small frag of Green Star poylps. For the lighting I have a 65w 10000k/actinic bulb, along with a Cascade 300(300gph) filter, and about 5-10lbs of LR and 20lbs of LS. All of this is going into the new tank, especially the filter media to quicken the cycle.

I plan to purchase a Koralia 2 powerhead rated at 600gph, a Seaclone 100 skimmer, 40lbs of live sand(to start with), maybe some LR(depending on budget).

I would like any suggestions or changes to what i plan on doing to help me get this thing up and running smoothly. I see this taking a few weeks to setup up(at the soonest), but would like to get it up as soon as I can. ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated.

    1. The Seaclone 100 skimmer is cr@p. Save yourself the time and money and search out a better skimmer - this topic has a ton of threads of questions on best skimmer anywhere from 55 to 75 gallons applies to your tank. You won't need that skimmer right away after the tank swap anyhow, maybe 2 months later.
    2. You will need more flow than one Koralia #2. I'd personally go with at least 2 Koralia #3s for that tank - you'll be happy you did.
    3. Start thinking about lights.

Id like to add , watch that chocolate chip -I forgot I had mine, when I started adding corals and it was fine for maybe 5 or 6 weeks, then I found him trying to digest some of my GSPs - it left a bare spot in the middle of the colony that 8 weeks later has now grown back

save money by buying base rock, it will become live rock in time in your tank

shallow sand bed in main tank is also a good way to go, easier to keep clean and maintain and saves money on sand

corallife make a good quality skimmer IME and not that more pricey than the Seaclone, pays to shop around for a good deal

flow, as Bogie indicates above 1 K 2 even with your power filter is not going to be adequate

Lights - T5s would get my vote, but then I dont bother with any difficult to keep species

Yeah i caught the chocolate chip mounting up on the torch one night but i caught him on his way up and was able to pull him off before anything happened...hasnt tried it since ;).

So I guess as of now my plan is to hold off on the skimmer and put that money towards lighting.
