For the past 5 months I have had a tall 150 gal reef tank with 5-6 fish. I have a 30 gal fugue that can not fit a skimmer I. It and so I have been using a coralife super skimmer 125 hanging on it. I have added a couple fish and figured it is past time to upgrade the fugue and skimmer.

I got a Trigger ruby 36 sump and a trigger bursa skimmer. In the middle section I am going to have my chaeto. I have 10 inches of depth in that section, should I just keep it bare bottomed, sand, mud, or rock rubble?

I have approx 200 pounds live rock and about a 2 inch sand bed in the DT if that makes any difference.

My return is only rated at 635 Gph. It has 4' to pump and 2 90 degree bends, so maybe it's actually closer to 500-550. If I have rubble would detritus build up around the rubble?

That's always a debatable subject; some do have problems with it, and others don't. I would recommend that you not add the rubble unless you're using the fuge as a pod farm. You have enough rock in the dt that the rubble won't make any difference concerning your bio-filter.

I would also leave it bare bottom unless, again, it's being used as a pod farm, or if you want to try your luck with a remote DSB for denitrification.

I think I might leave it mostly bare except for a couple pounds of small live rock (plug size to 5x plug size) that I use to glue frags to occasionally.
Would that be enough for pods to be able to breed there?
