I'm currently running 6 vho t12s on my 90 gallon tank, I'm looking to upgrade to two MH's and keep some t12s for actinics...

Question is how much is it going to cost me to go this route, also don't know much about MH's so I'm not sure what sizes I should get.. Two 250w? And is heat really that big of a issue from the bulbs, I have four fans currently built in my canopy now.

My goal is to house mostly sps in the tank so any suggestions would be appreciated.

2x250 should be fine for a std 90g. If your going to retrofit your existing canopy, figure $400-800ish. This assumes you are reusing some of your T-12s and not buying new. Heat isn't a big issue is you use fans for evaporation cooling. Basically point a fan at the water, the water evaporates and removes some heat energy. Also, you can use focused reflectors, such as lumen-brights. These alow you to hang the MH higher up, which prevents as much heat transer. the only issue is these may not fit in your canopy since they need to be 14-16" or so above the water and are 6-9" tall.

I am currently running 2 250w metal halides in my 90 gallon. I am using 2 lumenmax 3 reflectors and Lumatek ballasts. I am currently using phoenix bulbs and 2 t5 actinics and am very happy with this combo.
You will probably be spending around $600 for something simular if purchased new.
