I have a 30 gallon finnex m-tank mixed reef that was lighted by a current 150 hqi de disco pendant ball and 14k stock bulb. I just got a super deal on a used current sunpod 250 watt fixture. I've done my research and I plan on using an egg crate and two layers of window screening to acclimate it to my tank but and was wondering how long to acclimate my corals to the new lighting system? Is going from 150hqi de to 250 hqi de a big jump? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

some corals can acclimate in only a few hours... best bet here is to wait about 4 or more days between each layer

Thank you for the fast response and advice... I will take your advice and wait for the 4 days.

That will definitely be a big jump on a 30 gallon - that sunpod is a spot too right?

Definitely do all you can - try raising the light too if possible.

    temp spike

Yes, it is basically a spot light pendant. I placed the light on two days ago and The corals are doing ok with the egg rack and two layers of screening. My only issue is that the temp in my tank got a little high ( 80.7). So I raised the light fixture up, and am running a room fan pointed directly at the tank, I hope that my evap does not increase significantly as a result. Im looking into getting one of those clip on style fans to alleviate the heat issue, anyone have any experience or advice on them?

I use a total of four of these clip on fans I found on amazon for 13 each. Evaporation did increase but at least I don't have to get a chiller

Nice, Those fans look good. I was actually looking at some azoo clip fans from Dr.foster and smith. But $13 for a fan is way cheaper. Plus, I totally have to get some fans ASAP. Summer time is coming up, and it gets hot in California.
