Ok, im upgrading my tank from a 46 bow with a HOB overflow, to a new 65RR tank. I want to add a Tang, ive been doing research on this, I want to add a Yellow Kole Eye Tang. What are your thoughts? Also would a lawnmower blenny help keep algae in check? I know that Tangs eat alot of algae too.

I have a 75gal with a kole tang and lawnmower they both go to town all over the tank the bleeny is always hiding when i come around the tank though. well if he has seen me walk up. IMO the one thing that i have found the keeps algae down is turbo snails the mow it down like nothing i have ever seen :) hope that helps

If you are only going to have the tang and blenny and maybe one or two other small fish then you might be OK. The minimum size for a Kole tang is about 70 gallons (according to Liveaquaria - who is generally on point). You are right there.

You would want the tank to be established first and you would want to be sure to have thorough filtration and a protein skimmer.

With those conditions, I think you might be just OK.

I use nerite snails to do the damage with the algae(what algae if I get some.) But the kole tang and blenny should be suffice.

Either a Kole or a Tomini would be fine in a 65G. The Tomini is supposedly a more laid back bristletooth than the Kole.

i currently have a Tomini - and he is chill as a cucumber. Granted it is only him and a Sixline Wrasse in a 120DT but he got along RIGHT away with the sixline so that was a good sign!

I don't see a problem with a Kole tang in a 65, although you will most likely have to get rid of it within a few years or so as it gets bigger. But thats not an issue either because most LFS will trade a smaller one for a healthy big one without any problems.

I wouldn't put a kole (or any tang) in anything less than a 4' 75g, 3' is too small IMO.

i wouldnt put the kole tang in, it is going to be a pain to get him out once he grows too big for the tank, which he will as they need at least 85 gallons. but for several months it would be fine.
