Okay, so in December my LFS is having a sale and all tanks, stands, canopies, etc. will be at dealer cost. I'm already tired of how small my tank is, and want to go bigger. I'm thinking 75+ gallons. :cheesy:

At the moment, I only want one tank. I've got lots of animals, work, etc. so I don't want more than one tank to care for (I'm sure in a few years I'll have several!). So I'm thinking about buying a bigger tank and transferring all my livestock, rocks, etc. over to the new tank.

How would I go about doing that? Do I transfer the same water over? I know I keep the same filter media and stuff because it's already cycled. What do I do about the sand? It seems like I would want to keep the same sand because the bacteria and everything is established. I'll have to add some new live sand and rock, because I'll have so much more tank to fill up. Will the tank go through another cycle?

Any tips, info and experience anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

Go for it kc. 75's are a great size. I'd go bigger if you have a good spot for it in your house. My 72g is filling up fast.

If your existing tank is new you can transfer everything over. You may cause a small cycle because some things may get disturbed and die due to different lighting, flow, etc... I would not expect it to be much at all. If your tank is old I wouldn't use the existing sand.

Thanks. I'll definitely check out that article.

My tank is about 3 months old. So by the time I transfer it would be 4 or 5 months old. Would it be okay to use the same sand then?

I'll probably need an intermediate tank to put the fish in while I'm doing all this. I hope it won't stress them out too much.

When I got the 37 gallon I thought it looked so big. Haha, now it seems so small! I'm maxed out with fish, and I want more...so I decided I must upgrade! I thought since I'm remodeling my kitchen, I might as well remodel my fish tank! ;)

Yeah, you can use the same sand then. No problems. Go for a 125.

I've got nothing better to do with my money! Might as well spend it on fun stuff I enjoy. :)

Plus, with the new tank I'll get better lights so I can grow corals!!
