I recently had a small problem with my sump, the reservoir line came undone and water started to disperse on the floor and, at the same time, trickled down on my battery back up. It shorted.

Now that I went to buy another, I've read the safety warnings and there is a special bullet point which says:

"Do not use with or near aquariums! To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not use with or near an aquarium. Condensation from the aquarium can cause the unit to short out"

While my first incident wasn't due to condensation, it got me thinking about the possibility of that happening. Do any of you use a special UPS... cover it, or protect it in someway? I have no way of really isolating the unit because the tank is more or less built into the wall.

    Any suggestions.... advice?

    Thanks!

One reason many UPS units do not work well with aquariums is the heater. Aquarium heaters are what is called a "resistive" load and most UPS units sense that as a direct short and will not work.
