Ok. I have watched this a couple times... and I am still a bit baffled. Who is making the reef version of the upside down aquarium?

Nice Jake. Just found that one myself... so how do these work exactly?

Its similar to a closed loop. There is a pump, and it's intake is at the top of the top "tower" tank. Since the bottom lip of that tank is underwater, it creates a vacuum in which the water can flow upwards and fill it steadily. Return is into the shallow bottom tank.
I have heard it causes massive stress on the top tank and they don't last very long. Never actually seen one though.

I think it's because it's on the other side of the world.

Thank you sir! That makes some sense. Does it cause a lot of stress on the pump as well?

    Good one..

Good catch, PackLeader. That's what I was thinking while watching. As an analogy, it's like if you took a cereal bowl, put a few inches of water in it, then inverted a drinking glass on top (with a hole drilled to the bottom of the drinking glass). This way, you could suck the water into the glass while adding water to the cereal bowl. It would work.

And yes, there would be all the weight of the water sucking downwards on the glass. I suppose the "weak spot" would be the vacuum hole, but the force should be distributed equally upon the walls and top (bottom) of the glass.

Either that's it, or the whole thing was produced by David Copperfield with Criss Angel as camera man. :)
