A 55 gallon fuge on a 75 gallon reef tank ? Like killing flies with a elephant gun IMO . Thats far far to large what will feed or supply the needed nutrients for the refugium ? Larger is not always better.. less is most often enough or more.

The 55g is going under my 75g tank. It is on my 6' work bench down stairs in my basement and is made out of a bowling alley lane 3"es thick...It aint going no where, and there is no braceing under it. For now the only thing going in it is some dry base rock to seed for nitrite export in one section and chaeto algae for nitrate and phosphate export in another chamber under florecent spot light.
So it maybe an elephant gun but we will see what my phosphate and nitrate levels come to be after the hook-up...I also have 22 mangrave plants in a HOB filter that I plan to ad to it also.
As my corals and zoas grow I can upgrade to PC lighting and ad a frag tray up higher twards the waterline for propagation. I will be posting pictures of the construction of the refugium when I am through. However, I do not have a pump for it yet so hooking it up to the main tank will come later.
Does anyone have a free or really cheap pump you can donate for the cause??
Any more questions, go ahead and fire away.
    Sincerely,
    Rick

I also would have to agree with both, ziggy and tangster. A 55g for a 75g seems like an overkill but if thats what your heart is set on, more power to ya!!;D Remember that after your refu. catches up with all the no3 and po4 in your tank, whats going to feed them? You just might have some die off in your refu. and that can be messy. Whatever you choose, good luck and we're here for ya!!;D

the fuge will add more water to the system to keep it more stable, just be bepaired to have to move some of those mangroves if they start starving.i always wanted to try mangroves but i just don't have the room.i may plant one in a clay pot with holes in it and pluck all but a couple leaves to stunt it.
