Ive got a blue tuxedo urchin in my tank who is really cool, but is kind of a bulldozer of sorts. Im thinking about moving it to the sump, but my fuge light is on 24x7. would the urchin be okay in light 24x7 or do I need to set up a reverse light schedule?

Thanks, I will give it a shot. I guess if I see a decline in health i will put the lights on a schedule.

Not trying to play the devils advocate here, but:

I'm wondering why your fuge light is 24/7?

Do you have any macro algae? an ATS maybe?

Please enlighten me as to when and why 24/7 is beneficial?

Nothing wrong with 24/7 in a fuge; it's a strategy many employ to get the best macro growth. Algae doesn't need a rest period. :)

I just dont have to worry about it either. Not that a timer is a big deal or anything.

I have even read one reefers project, where he tried it both ways and documented it. Guess which one grew better by far?

I could pull up threads by others on this sujbect, but I'm not trying to get in a ____ing match with you, not at all.

Lighting the fuge nearly opposite the DT also helps keep the Ph more stable.

I know this was about the Urchin, and I don't think it would bother it, I do think it's more benefiscial to light the fuge may on a 12/12, and overlapping opposite the DT.

** EDIT** Actually, I was assuming you were keeping Chaeto, which may not be the case!
If it's Calupera, I 'memeber reading it helps to keep it from getting 'asexual' growth with 24/7.
Either way, it's all good, I think you Urchin will be fine. Mine cruises in my DT

Other peoples thoughts? Sorry for the hijack

Hijack away, its relevent to my situation. My fuge has chaeto which never grows, you think thats due to the lighting or what?

MIne grows like gang busters, and I light it with 2 x 100W CFL house bulbs- 6500K, each in it's own clamp on aluminum cone like reflector.- I light it 12/12.

I know elements, can have an effect, but if your params are good, try the 12/12 with a decent/ albeit- inexspensive light source for a few weeks, see if it helps
