Can aragonite that has been used in a cichlid tank be mixed with new aragonite for use in a new reef tank? I realized that the bacteria is probably not the same, and the sand will need to cycle. Other than that, is it safe?

    Thanks,
    Steve

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I would say that if you did not use any FW chemicals in the tank, and the phosphate levels were appropriate, that if you rinse it good and let it dry it should be fine.

However, when it comes to the substrate cost and the overall cost of the tank I always get new substrate. It's a small investment compared to the overall investment.

Thanks, Corailline. Your right. For the cost compared to the effort, it just isn't worth the hassle.

    Thanks again.

    +1 to what coralline said.
I made dumb mistake of cheeping out on sand and the amount of problems it's giving me does not justify me skimping on the sand. I saved like 60 bucks but the months of problems I'm facing now ain't worth it. That's my 2 cents.

I would agree with above as well. You might see if you can find a cup of live sand from a local reefer to help kick start your new sand
