Dripping Kalk has been working for me, however I'm tired of mixing ~10 gallons of it weekly.

I know someone who recently got out of the hobby and is selling some equipment. He has a Korallin C-1502 CA Reactor, the entire setup including CO2 Tank, pump, etc. He's asking $300 for all of it...is this a good deal, what are things I should be asking or looking for?

    Thanks

That seems like about 1/2 of the new price if all equipment is there. I have been looking at this same setup and if it in good condition I would more than likely buy it JMO

I think I'm getting it. The guy said he'll even fill up the CO2 tank for me this wknd before I pick it up on Monday...I just need to buy media. There are lots of different media options on Marinedepot and Dr.Fosters...what do you guys recommend for best results?

I say that is a pretty good deal. Does that include a Ph controller?

What brand of regulator is on it? I would steer clear of a a milwaukee CO2 regulator, but a milwaukee ph controller will work fine. For some reason their regulators are not very well made.

I have a GEO CA Rx, and I use the Carib sea ARM media, but I think the Korallin has a different flow procedure than the GEO. I would see what others that use a Korallin use for media.

I picked up the Korallin reactor today, came with the eheim pump, a lifter pump, regulator (JBJ) with solonoid, full CO2 tank (the guy I bought it from exchanged it today for a new full tank, still has the plastic seal on the connector)...he even throw in a new in box MAG7 pump, new acrylic fish trap, new scrapers and he offered to stop by this wknd to help me set it up...all for $300....I think I got a good deal.

He was using just aragonite as media, what media would you recommend for this reactor?

Sounds like you got a great deal. Congratulations. Please keep us posted on how you like it. I am leaning towards this model and I am curious on how it well it works.

Not to be a downer, but hopefully you have better luck with the jbj regulator than most people do.

When it goes, get a reef fanatic regulator.

Also, before you run that reactor, make sure you have a ph controller on it. Running a calcium reactor without a ph controller is like playing russian roulette.

Horkn, you are being a downer, you responded to this thread earlier, why didn't you mention that too when you said "stay away from the milwaukee regulators"? :) ...just messing with you, I'm sure it'll be OK. As far as the pH controller goes I don't plan on getting a separate controller. Can I use the pH probe that's attached to my ACII to do the same thing?

    LOL

I guess I usually say to stay away from any regulator that is not a reef fanatic one, unless you get the "aquarium plants" one that has been referenced on 3reef a few times.

You sure can use the ph probe that is on your AC2. But unless you have another port for another probe, you won't be able to monitor ph through the AC2. No biggie really, i would rather monitor and control the ph on the reactor tha the rest of the tank that you can merely watch with a ph meter, or a test.
