From the sound of it, I bet it will hold just fine, at most needing small patch.

I would take it up with the seller and show him the damage.

Careful packaging would have prevented this issue, and the seller needs to be aware of that, and compensate you.

I'm thinking of epoxy/ welding the broken pieces to a solid base if I have to fix it...

    Here's the photos:

Hold on...that doesn't look like shipping damage. I bet someone accidentally dropped the reactor before packing it. With the way the plastic is also torn i think this happened before being shipped.

What did the ad say the condition of the reactor was? Unless it said broken, it is not what you purchased.

You can certainly try to obtain compensation for at least the parts needed to fix it, but I wouldn't send it back, I'd just add another piece of acrylic underneath it, and glue it back together. I don't see any evidence from the pictures that it won't hold water.

Even if you can salvage it, you still need to contact the seller and demand some type of compensation for the damaged item. You paid a lot of money for that and it should be in one piece! Start out being firm and polite, but if that doesn't work, up the ante. That's just not right and you should get some money back.

I could see it being both ways... it was shipped with a 20lb tank (big tank) that probably bashed it in shipping... the way the postal lady rolled it into the building shows that they weren't observing careful handling in the slightest (I never expect any shipping method to). Whenever I personally pack anything for shipping, I pack it as though it can and will be dropped from a 6ft height and survive just fine.

This is what it was packed in... the empty beer boxes were shoved in around the reactor... that is what was used as packing material, if you can call it that... it makes me wonder what happened to the beer that was in the boxes... and wonder if he was drunk when he packed it! :-/

I really like the ^up arrow on the box. It's so clearly marked (not as if anyone handling it would care)

...and here is the OG listing: http://frederick.craigslist.org/for/1656831424.html

doesn't look broken in the pictures to me...

And BTW, I had him remove the crushed coral media so it would be lighter to ship.

thanks for all the suggestions so far!!!

I called and left a message with the guy... I hope he's not avoiding calls from the 404 area code.

Wow. this guy is a piece of WORK. he just called me back and said that he was getting P!$$3D with me because he has been so nice up to this point because he offered phone support to set it up when I got it(which I didn't ask for but just thought he was being nice). I feel like I'm getting Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hide with this guy... I can't believe some people.

I said, "how do you think I feel? I was expecting a reactor that wouldn't be damaged and i got one that is damaged, what would you do?"

He said that he is not going to give me any money and that he did pack it well... he said he was going to call Geo's Reef and try to get them to send me a "replacement base" and he would call me back tomorrow.

I said I'll wait for his call tomorrow because I didn't know what else to say. I am not happy one bit about this.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS GUY. WHAT AN ******! I would never treat someone like this.
