So I am getting back into reef keeping. Setup the tank mid dec 2012 so it's been up and going a month or 2 now. I went with tap water and still using it now, it worked fine in my old 600 gallon FOWLR.

The tank is a bio cube HQI

I am going to get my old RODI watergeneral rd-102 set up here soon it needs some piping. Should I replace all the filters befor use? It's been sitting for over a year with old water in it. And does any one know where I can get that little pice that goes into the wast water pipe to restrict the flow?

If I need new filters can you point me where to get them.

    Thanks

Yes replace the filters and maybe clean out well first.

Spectrapure.com for both filters and flow restricter.

Absolutely. Membranes must be kept wetted at all times once in use, same with DI. The sediment and carbon can dry out but probably need to be replaced with higher quality filters, not the Water General drinking water stuff.
What you will find though is the cost of all the replacements will be almost the same as buying a new $125 Spectrapure reef quality system with all new reef quality filters and 90 GPD high rejection rate RO membrane.

    Thank you.
If I remember right I was only getting about 40 45 psi on my old rodi. Is a booster pump needed as a must. Or just if I want to filters to last longer?

40 psi is about the bare minimum for a membrane to function, much less than that and water will not osmose or travel through the membrane fabric. Yes you will lose a few percentage point efficiency but it should still function at 40-45 psi. DI resin life will be less as the membrane is not removing as much TDS.

Try monitoring your pressure at different times of the day and night and pick times when it is highest to run the RO/DI and it will work better.
