So, 4 mp10s, 2 seaswirls...sounds like my current build. You spying on me?!

I'm running a CL with my swirls. :)

The only real way is to do a center island. I like deeper tanks so that would work. Using a smaller tank... like say a $' 120g... 2X4, I thought I could leave room in back fro flow. Not a "center isalnd, just room for flow. The interesting thing would be to use those new RIO pumps... put that on the back wall to move water back there, and use the Vortechs up from. I think you could get a decent gyre going.

I would switch long term too... like you say 6 hours... or at least equal day light time so you have equal grow time in both directions.

I would think 4 vortechs would be plenty in a small tank. I have looked at using closed loop but that turns very expensive and complicated switching directions.

I really miss my tank and do not know when I will get another one. I have been busy doing other things... but the one thing I can't get out of my head is a gyre flow cube or close to cube tank with 4 MP60s or 4 MP 40s and a minimalist(ish) center island viewable on all 4 sides.

So, do you think the sea swirls will end up hurting my gyre?

I would say yes since the direction output direction should change when your gyre direction changes.

I thought reef crest or some other pulse would be OK since it was still all going one direction. So give a little turbulence sort of... but sea swirls going back and forth IDK.

I though NPS wanted more stable flow (ima noob about this) that why i was thinking lagoon. I had oscilation in power but less deviation from the mean. (I took math once)

Best I understand laminar flow mocks there environment. Many seem to thrive in deeper waters on the sids of cliffs where the water moves in one direction and may only change direction once a day... Now.. I'm in the early stage of researching all this so I'm not sure I have this all right. I may be drawing too many conclusions from too limited research.

Another thought is to have the left pumps on for 6 hours, then just the right pumps for 6 hours. (once again I would throw in nutrient transport for about a half hour between each swap)
