    Ya I have talked to a few people here about it and that article is the one that sent me down that road...very very interesting... especially since our attention is mostly on waves... yet reefs are exposed to many currents and have lots of mass flow.

    Anyway... the 4 part article series is super super informative. It is sort of a pain because you can't really find them put together somewhere. You have to try to use the links in the article to go back to the other ones, but the series is most certainly worth the read.

    Now if you just go out on the web and try to google gyre flow tanks... ya, not much. Seems some closed loop attempts out there, and the most common seemed to be alternating current of a much shorted frequency... like every few minutes. I never saw the point, at least not like setting up mass flow like the article talks about.

    I Figured to break my light period into quarters. Just to give equal time for growth at both direction. I realize in the wild they may only be exposed to one direction, but they also are not getting the light we are giving them either. At depth they probably do not grow very fast. But in our tanks I would assume if we only did one direction predominately they would grow directionally.
