I have a brand new 65 gallon reef ready all glass brand tank in the basement i wanna use as a refugium....wondering if anyones used a tank that had a overflow box and everything for use with a sump as a refugium. I wouldnt have to drill it or set up any baffling, just tweek the flow from the sump to the refugium to around 60 gallons an hour. Throw a couple hundred watts of pc or t5 on there and im good to go. Whats everyone think? Any suggestions?

I think it work work well...it would just depend on how you set it up. For the overflow to work you'd need higher water level than I think most people run in their refugiums, but it outta work ok, I think

depending on how you set it up you could overflow it straight back into the sump if that's all down in the basement, or you can get bulkhead plugs to seal up the overflow and plumb it some other way

What size tank is this 65 fuge supposed to support ? 600 to 700 Gallons ? Or you will need a very over stocked smaller tank what are the grasses supposed to feed on ? Smaller or less is sometime more . As for the overflow not a issue at all you will have to simply raise the 65 high enough to allow the drain to the sump rim. Take the junk overflows out and put in a straight stand pipe
