    Hey everyone,
I don't know much about drilling or plumbing when it comes to fish tanks. I want to upgrade my tank for something bigger but mostly every tank I see on sale ate drilled. I dont want to set up any fuge or sump, just want to use the tank as a display. So my question is, if I do buy a drilled tank and just want to use it as a display with nothing under, is there something I could plug the hole with to keep the water from falling out? I'm a huge noob when it comes to stuff like this so I'd love some feedback from you guys.

Well you did want my feedback...

Having a sump isn't rocket science, really. So if you're thinking it's another thing to upkeep or is hard to do you're mistaken. A sump can just add extra water volume and also hide your heaters and filtration under the tank. It'd be silly to not utilize a tank that's already drilled.

however if you still wish to go sump less you can plug up the hole.

^^^Good advise, you're going to need filtration, having a sump is the best and having a drilled tank is the best for doing a sump.Just do a little research on sump filtration and ask lots of questions, asking here is good.

You will want a drilled tank in the long run, believe me.

    Ya, Welcome to 3Reef.

If you are getting into a SW fish tank,
I'd rethink that 'don't want a sump thing'.

You did say you wanted a Display, and the best way we know of to have one (disclaimer- NOT the only way; dont shoot!)
is by adding a sump if at all possible.

It is easy, my sump is basically all DIY plastic containers! Check out my display in my sig.

And my tank is not even drilled or reef ready.

But if I would have slowed down a little when I started out- it would be!

Yeah I've had my 55 reef for a year now. Just never really considered having a sump because it just all sounds confusing. But I will look into it.

yeah, do a sump. It can be as easy as a large $10 tote from walmart. You'll want one eventually as the others have stated! It hides you heaters etc and helps balance the tank out. And won't add that much cost to the tank. Its a win win IMO

A sump is only as complicated as you want to make it. IMO not having to look at a heater is worth plumbing one up.
